Topolabamba - Mexican Street Food
Topolabamba is arguably one of most popular and in my opinion, the best restaurants in Glasgow.
The restaurant is located in the city centre at 89 Saint Vincent Street. With it being only a 3 minute walk from Glasgow Central train station, it is very accessible and handy for those looking for convenience. The location of it also places you within walking distance of nearby sight seeing and tourist locations.
Background
As previously mentioned, Topolabamba is definitely one of the best places to eat in Glasgow and in my opinion, you won't get better Mexican food anywhere else. The street food style alongside the rustic décor creates a very inviting and comfortable experience.
The biggest downside is the fact it is so busy! From the price point being very affordable for the quality of food you are getting, to the unique frozen homemade cocktails, to the lively busy atmosphere, all the boxes are ticketed for an enjoyable place to eat.
Menu
The Menu has its own unique aspect to it. It is not your traditional al la carte menu where you would generally find starter, main, dessert but instead includes dishes of all different portion sizes. This is to highlight the rustic street food feel of the place, encouraging you to order multiple different dishes (which is how they recommend). The menu is given to you in paper form along with a small pencil for you to mark out what dishes you would like to the server. Here is a link to the food menu for you to view the expansive selection provided:Not only is the food great but the restaurant is very popular and well known for its in house slushie machines which include varied different frozen cocktails. Buckets of beer can be ordered and water is served in washed out tequila bottles, which makes the place feel authentic Mexican. The drinks menu can be accessed below:The price of drinks here in comparison to other places in Glasgow I would class as reasonable. A bucket of 4 Sol for £10 is inviting even for people who don't like beer. Normally cocktails aren't something I would rush to order but there's something about getting one in Topolabamba which just feels right to do.
I'm a creature of habit when I eat here and more than often I order the same dishes each time. This isn't to say that the other dishes aren't nice...believe me they are. My go to order consists of - Chicken Tinga Quesadilla, Barbacoa Beef Tacos, Chicken Mole Enchilada and some salt and chilli pepper fries on the side. I don't remember a time I've ever had to complain about any part of my experience, it really is just that good.
Service
The service you are given within the restaurant is one of their stand out features. The staff are very knowledgeable and assist you with whatever you may ask. With the menu being so extensive, they also help point you in the right direction of what works well together, as well as recommending how many dishes to order based on the conversation you have with them. The staff make you feel very comfortable and even slightly entertained with their approach. This is somewhere I would recommend to anybody who likes mexican food or even just come good cocktails, its a no brainer.
